Skels were a sentient species that dwelled on Hoth

. Hunting in packs, they were a primitive people, attacking whatever they could find without warning. They could burrow under the snow, and survive in extremely cold conditions. The Skels resided in caves, within the mountains of Hoth. The species' name originated as a nickname given to them by combatants during the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire. Long before the Republic, the Empire or the White Maw came to Hoth, the planet belonged to the skels - and these well-organized natives may decide to eliminate the unwelcome invaders - despite the fact that they were capable of wielding only primitive weapons.
Skels were a bipedal species, and could grow up to 1.2 meters in height. They were naturally agile, and featured protective tusks that grew out of their snouts. The hands of the Skels boasted tough, bony claws which could be used to burrow under snow and ice. Their fur was dense and thick, insulating them against extremely cold-weather environments, such as Hoth. Such was the effectiveness of the fur that they could survive without shelter in conditions far colder than Hoth's average atmospheric temperature.
